Eligible Horses
The NYSS list of horses eligible to race in the 2008 NYSS events can be viewed by clicking on the following:
2-year-old Race Eligibles
3-year-old Race Eligibles
Making the February 15, 2008 NY Sire Stakes $200 payment for a 2-year-old (2006 year of foal) will make the horse eligible to stake to the NY Sire Stakes as a 3-year-old in 2009. Both the 2009 February and April payments need to be made as a 3 year old for the horse to race in 2009.
If the 2 year old will not race in the 2008 NYSS races, then the 2 year old April payment does not need to be made.
If the February 15 payment was not made, then a $1100 supplemental payment may be made by April 15 to make the 2 year old eligible to stake as a 3 year old. If the horse was supplemented, that 2 year old may not race in the Sire Stakes as a 2 year old.
The State Fair and County Fair February and April payments need to be made only in the year that the horse will be racing in those events.
An eligible horse has to be New York-bred and nominated as a yearling to the NYSS program. If the New York-bred was not nominated as a yearling, the only NYSS event it may race in is the County Fairs by paying a $50 penalty along with the February 15 payment. The April 15 county fair payment will also need to be paid to be eligible to race in the County Fairs.
